Our Impact

Twenty women and families are always housed in our two project-based facilities, the Dunbar and Owen House. Since 2009, when the Dunbar building first opened, 40 women and families have been housed. In October 2016, the DC Department of Human Services awarded funding to Open Arms Housing to provide supportive services to what is now 87 additional women and families in scattered site units situated throughout the city – a tremendous expansion of our service footprint.

As we celebrate twenty five years, we are proud to have prevented subsequent homelessness 94% of the time for our clients and residents.

Housing Stabilization Rate

Housing stability remains our principal outcome measure. Open Arms Housing continues to maintain a 95 percent housing stabilization rate at the Dunbar and Owen House project-based sites. Altogether, we have prevented a return to homelessness for 35 of the 37 women and families we have served, preventing a collective 116 years of homelessness. Of the 15 who have exited the program, 13 have moved directly to permanent settings.

Participate in community programs and/or family activities

Open Arms Housing is one of the first providers in DC to offer the Housing First model to chronically homeless women and families and to have been remarkably successful in that pursuit. We have demonstrated success with both project-based and scattered-site models of Housing First. We firmly believe that each of the models uniquely benefits women and families with different challenges by offering a spectrum of housing response to those different challenges.
